NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE
Team Addy is a dedicated community organization committed to advancing Sarcoma cancer research in support of SickKids Hospital. Every dollar raised goes directly to Addy’s oncologist, Dr. Malkin, to help empower his research and secure additional major grants that push the science forward in Sarcoma research. In recognition of Addy’s enduring impact, SickKids renamed its Sarcoma research fund the Team Addy Sarcoma Research Fund.
Team Addy raises funds through beloved community events such as the Team Addy 3x3, Addy-tude, Family Fun Days, and other local initiatives that bring people together for a meaningful cause.
At its heart, Team Addy is driven by kindness, community, and a shared commitment to making a lasting difference for children and families affected by Sarcoma in the years ahead.
Addison’s fight against cancer began on a regular summer day when she noticed a painless lump in her right breast. What initially seemed like a benign discovery led to a heartbreaking diagnosis of Angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
She underwent chemotherapy immediately at SickKids hospital in Toronto, where she awaited surgery to remove the tumour in her chest. While the surgery was successful, it resulted in removing her breast, pectoral muscles, and 37 lymph nodes. Later tests unfortunately revealed that 14 of the lymph nodes removed were cancerous. She resumed chemotherapy for six months while also undergoing intensive radiation at the same time for seven weeks. Unexpected allergic reactions and the regrowth of her tumour resulted in additional hospital treatments and stays. Addy remained incredibly strong and determined through it all, inspiring everyone around her.
Tragically, on July 10th, 2022, only two days after her 14th birthday, Addison passed away. This heartbreaking loss has had an immense impact on her family and her community. While the pain and grief they experience is unimaginable, they have channeled that pain into something powerful: a commitment to continue Addison’s fight against Sarcoma cancer.
